I have found this book to be very useful as an amateur (beginner) at the art of identifying mushrooms and without access to a microscope. I have learnt a lot and am rather more confident about identifications that I make - using the book points me in the right direction when seeking photographic confirmation. (I am not looking to find edible fungi just to put a name to those I see in my local woodland). The jargon is difficult to get round but not impossible but I am constantly having to translate when talking to some others about my finds - with other naturalists/mycologists its easy.(Read more)
