Consumer review about How to Build Outdoor Structures :
The book is a tad dated (being from 1988) in the sense that more modern materials and tools are not described or used, and it's a cheap edition, in brown ink on cheap paper with no other pictures than those on the cover.Having said that, it is truly crammed with information (and lots of it; having 412 pages) and very clear line drawings for plans, overviews and details, explaining everything perfectly.Because of the large format (272x208mm) text and drawings are easily readable and instead of repeating the same steps over and over on every project, each chapter has a general information part, followed by the specifics for the different variations. If you are a person that needs lots of photo's to get the general idea, than this obviously is not the book for you. If on the other hand, you are a person with a vague idea of what you would like to build but have next to no clue about how it should be done and need the technical info, this very likely is the book for you. The whole process is told in easy to understand layman's terms and where ever jargon is introduced it is explained first. Every step of the process of every project is explained in detail and tips are given to adjust dimensions to fit one's needs. All that and given you can find the book dirt cheap (mine cost me a whole cent) this is a well worth investment in getting things right the first time. If not the only book you will need, it should definitely be one of the basic books to use on the subject.Wholeheartedly recommended.(Read more)
